Retired Attire

While watching TV tonight I saw an ad for The Gap featuring a group of young girls singing and dancing:

Old attire
Officially retired
Hey Mom and Dad guess what
One, two, three, four
not going to wear it anymore

Seriously?  It’s no wonder children today have such a sense of entitlement.  This is a terrible message to be giving them.  I can imagine a child seeing this ad and then whining to their parents because they have “last year’s clothes.”  I know they need to pull a profit and Christmas is around the corner, but this does nothing to draw me into their stores.  In fact, I think this is reason enough not to go.

Its just a commercial advertising new apparel. “terrible message”? Oh, lighten up a bit.

  2. Scott. says:

It’s not just advertising new apparel – it’s telling children that the clothes they already have are not good enough. That’s the problem.

haha when i saw it i automatcially thouight, future cheerleading sluts and whores. tho i admitt the outfits were cute and better than how i was dressed bakc then. =/

  4. Scott. says:

Oh God, I couldn’t even tell you what all I wore at that age… a lot of hand-me-downs for sure, and I didn’t know any different!

  5. Claire says:

I’m pretty sure the lyrics are “Formal attire…”

  6. Scott. says:

That would change the meaning significantly, but I’m not sure it would make any sense. I’ll have to pay attention if I see the ad again.
